There is a gap in leadership where women are concerned in the North Eastern communities.
Culturally leadership has been the prerogative of the men and women have not been openly
encouraged to vie for leadership and if they do try it is not yet fully acceptable to the men to
give that kind of power to a woman.
The few women in leadership are mostly nominated by their parties and the sheer number or
lack of women in the County Assemblies despite the constitutional gender rule should be a
wake call to society of the need to try something new to deduce their impact.
Women are considered care givers and not direction givers, with the common disdain amongst
society against politicians who do not affect any worthwhile development, maybe it is time to
give women a seat on the leadership table so we can see the change only they can provide.
